Dr. Koki Hikosaka is a Professor and Dean of the Graduate School of Life Sciences at Tohoku University.
He received Ph.D from the University of Tokyo in 1995 and worked as an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Science, Tohoku University from 1995, becoming an Associate Professor in 1999 and a Professor in 2010. He became the Dean of the Graduate School of Life Sciences, Tohoku University in 2023. He is interested in research on a wide range of scales, from molecules to ecosystems, with a focus on leaf photosynthesis. In particular, he has published many papers on the photosynthetic acclimation to environmental changes, and on the physiological mechanisms and ecological significance of interspecific differences in leaf traits. In recent years, he has been developing methodologies for estimating photosynthetic rates using remote sensing. He received the ESJ Encouragement Prize from the Botanical Society of Japan and the Ecological Society of Japan Prize from the Ecological Society of Japan.
