Dr. Mei Li is a Professor at the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China.
She received her Ph.D. degree in Biophysics from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2007. From 2007 to 2016, she worked in the Institute of Biophysics, Chinese Academy of Sciences as an associate professor, and was promoted to professor in 2016. Her work focuses on the mechanisms of light-energy utilization in natural photosynthesis. Her group has solved a number of high-resolution structures of photosystems I and II (PSI and PSII) from various phototrophic organisms. Their works reveal the assembly details between the peripheral light-harvesting complexes (LHCs) and the reaction center as well as the complex network of the excitation energy transfer within these supercomplexes. Another research interest of her group is the regulatory mechanisms and processes of photosynthesis, including cyclic electron transfer and state transitions. Her group has solved structures of NADH dehydrogenase-like (NDH) supercomplexes that play important roles in the cyclic electron transfer, as well as structures of PSI-LHCI-LHCII supercomplexes which are critical for state transitions.
