Dr. Michi Suga is a Professor at the Research Institute for Interdisciplinary Science, Okayama University, Japan.
He received his Ph.D. in Science from Osaka University in Japan in 2009. From 2010 to 2012, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Oregon Health Science University in the US. In 2012, he moved to Okayama University as an assistant professor in the Department of Biology. Subsequently, he was promoted to associate professor in 2017 and a professor in 2022, respectively, at the Research Institute for Interdisciplinary Science. His work focused on the mechanisms of water oxidation and light-energy utilization in natural photosynthesis. He solved the high-resolution structure of photosystem II and reaction intermediates in water oxidation. In 2023, the International Society of Photosynthesis Research awarded him the Robin Hill Award.
